Mumbai Mirror | Sep 25, 2010 Reader and founder of PAWS Sunish Subramanian Kunju shares his experience with us When disturbed, it enlarges forebody to display a black and white pattern that is otherwise hidden under the scales. It may strike with mouth wide open and feeds on lizards, frogs and small birds. The female snake gives birth to 3-23 young ones, depending on the size of the mother. Chandramani Yadav, who was passing on the way happened to notice the snake and informed PAWS-Mumbai. Later snake friend Sunish Subramanian reached the spot and rescued the full grown female Vine snake. Since it was evening time, it was not felt appropriate to release at night. But, in the morning, when the team got ready for its release, it was surprising to see four baby snakes along with the mother. As per the view of the expert, soon the female was released but the babies were kept for some days till it had developed its first scale. Finally it was released after a week time in the natural habitat under the supervision of forest staff. It is the second incident where Vine snakes are being rescued from the same spot.If you spot a snake in vicinity, you can call PAWS-Mumbai for rescual, on their helpline 9833480388.
