Mumias Sugar company has renewed its commitment to sponsor AFC Leopards despite the company woes and the club’s tug of war with Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA). The company through the Managing Director Coutts Otolo disclosed that it will finish paying the players pending salary arrears, a process that already started on Wednesday January 14th. Fully committed Otolo clarified that the Sugar Milling Company will meet its financial obligation and total commitment to the team until the end of their contract in December 2016. During a closed door meeting held at the company’s offices in Mumias, Kakamega county, the management vowed to be remitting monthly salary arrears in the next three weeks. The MD also said they would pay one month arrears totaling to 2.1 million starting on Wednesday, a process that already started. The company will pay similar amount in the next two Wednesday’s.The company also gave its tax guarantee to KRA committing to pay the KSh.5.1million arrears owed to the tax collector. Reached for comment,club Organising Secretary Timothy Lirumbi confirmed the latest development while assuring KRA to relax their conditions and allow them to access their accounts. -We are delighted with the fresh commitment because we will now concentrate on recruitment exercise before the January 31 deadline, he said. Slashed debt Leopards prior to the Wednesday payment owed its players Kshs 6.3 million in arrears where the club’s wage bill stands at Ksh.2.2 million but this has reduced to Ksh.2-1 million after some of the players were paid. The Mumias meeting was attended by the firm’s MD Otolo and Corporate Affairs Director Pamela Lutta,Leopards Chairman Allan Kasavui and Lirumbi.
