Munyeto Wilson, a friend and anti-corruption advocate blogs on the Transparency International website; In my opinion, the greatest factor that has led to the steady growth of corruption in Africa is greed. once a greedy ruler takes over, the first thing he does is how he personally consolidates himself in power. He makes sure he looks for security around himself, that is why you find in most cases all the government key positions going to one family or certain small group of people ( Relatives, Friends and In-laws) Such groups do not work for their countries or economies, but their own projects and friends. They do not want to hear about retirement, but continuous rulership in their families. What keeps them in power becomes their first priority, not the welfare of all their nationals. Whether it is so costly, they do not care, and that is why in such cases you hear common cases of bribery done by high profile persons; especially when it comes to awarding lucrative contracts and tenders. They make sure there is no independent institution standing, but all must work on the orders and in interests of those rulers. Some of these institutions include Parliament, Judiciary, Electral organ and many other important government Institutions. HOW THESE INSTITUTIONS ARE WEAKENED: PARLIAMENT: If elections are still being held, they make sure they take the majority seats in the house so that they create unnecessary laws that benefit the current regime or ruler. JUDICIARY; When it comes to graft/ corruption cases where government officials are implicated, they make sure they influence the verdict, where judges must acquit those officials. ELECTRA ORGANS: They make sure they influence the campaigns, tallying and declaration of results. There are Presidential term limits. How ever, the international bodies should put parameters to be followed like presidential term limits a must, The government must lay off all the officials implicated in graft or else, Aid must be cut. Influence the independence of PARLIAMENT, JUDICIARY, ELECTORAL ORGAN and other institutions.
