Murray Shanahan, Professor of Cognitive Robotics at Imperial - TopicsExpress

Murray Shanahan, Professor of Cognitive Robotics at Imperial College London just completed the preprint version of a book on the Technological Singularity. While asking me to review the WBE chapter, he asked me about references to my coming up with the term whole brain emulation. So, I just did a little digging in the archives of the older versions of the minduploading web site, from back when the original Mind Uploading Research Group (MURG) was an active email list. What I found there might be just a little bit interesting, especially if you have ever been asked where did that term come from. My own memory was clearly a bit frail, because I had been telling people that the term WBE appeared around 2000, when in fact the old survey web page I discovered clearly shows that I must have proposed the term Whole Brain Emulation before the survey was completed on April 29th, 1998! Here is the original survey page.
