#Murthy effect: Infosys’ global sales head resigns . In an apparent sign of change after the return of NR Narayana Murthy as executive chairman last month, Infosys’ global sales head Basab Pradhan resigned suddenly on Tuesday, with just three days to go for the software major’s results for the April-June quarter. Both Pradhan and the company issued terse statements on the exit — which comes at a challenging time for Infosys, struggling to stay ahead of industry peers in the middle of a downturn in the industry. “Leaving Infosys to go back to the startup world. To all my friends at Infosys, please stay in touch,” Pradhan, who was also member of the company’s executive council, tweeted. “We confirm Mr Basab Pradhan has resigned. We wish him all the best,” an Infosys spokeswoman said. Educated at IIT-Kanpur and IIM-Ahmedabad, Prasad started his career at Hindustan Unilever when it was called Hindustan Lever. He joined Infosys in 1995 and left in 2005 to start a venture-funded startup firm, Gridstone Research, specialising in financial analysis. He returned to Infy in 2011, when the company restructured its strategy as part of the Infosys 3.0 plan that involved using intellectual property to back up its old model based on cost-effective services. Last month, Infosys recalled Murthy to save its sagging fortunes. Over the last few years, the company has increasingly lost in growth terms to rival firms such as TCS, Cognizant and HCL Technologies. Murthy has been indicating top-level changes since his return while industry speculation has centred around restlessness in the top ranks where the ambitions of some executives may be checked by his return.
