Music Nerdiness: Boston guitarist and Toledo, Ohio native Tom Scholz won a full scholarship to MIT, where he obtained Bachelors and Masters degrees in Mechanical Engineering. Scholz made the effect pedals that gave him his distinct guitar sound. He also founded the company Rocktron and was the principle designer behind most of the effects and amp simulators.
