Music News ! Dave Grohl: Why I need music ! Dave Grohl has an instrument in his hand within 90 minutes of waking up. The Foo Fighters front man is one of the worlds best loved rock stars, bursting on to the scene in the late 80s with trailblazing band Nirvana. After band leader Kurt Cobain committed suicide in 1994, Dave, 45, founded the Foo Fighters and the band are still going strong 20 years later. I make music because I wake up in the morning like a f**king Space Shuttle, and just start roaring. Every... single... f**king... day. Within an hour and a half I have an instrument in my hand, Dave explained to British magazine Q. The band, made up of Dave, Chris Shiflett, Pat Smear, Nate Mendel and Taylor Hawkins, are gearing up for the release of their eighth studio album, Sonic Highways, which drops on Monday. To go with the album Dave created a series for HBO called Foo Fighters Sonic Highways, which filmed them as they recorded eight songs in eight different US cities. I feel a responsibility to do this, Dave continued. When I look at Ian Beveridge, our monitor guy, whos been working with me for 25 years. Or I look at Taylor Hawkins, or I look at Pat Smear, or I look at the 40,000 people who come to see the band play in a field, I dont want to let them down. All those people. Im here for them. Because what the f**k else am I going to do? Make movies?! Can you imagine me trying to direct some pretentious male model to emote?! Believe me, if theres a hell on earth, I think that might be it.
