Music challenge day 4: If not my fav album , its definitely in the top three. Pure swing , pure swag. For me , no big band swung harder the Basie. A young Quincy Jones writing some hip arrangements - and Frank...this will sound strange to say - but I think Sinatra is a bit underrated vocally. We all know how hip and cool he is , and that hes a good singer and an icon : and that were supposed to revel in the legend that Frank is - but if you really sit down and take a serious listen to his vocal stylings in this album ; the way he sits back in the pocket , how he plays with the rhythm of the lyric , phrasing of the melody ....the man was badder and a lot deeper than I think he gets credit for - which again is so weird to say. Hell even mispronounce lyrics on purpose just to swing it harder ( listen for ...back to A-ca-poo-co-bay ! ) I posted before about meeting Quincy and just wanting to talk about this album : not Off The Wall, not Thriller , but Frank and Basie. youtu.be/BK-FL-JxLio
