Music just keeps on coming! This Friday..."THE NORTHPORT JAZZ BAND" Who are they?? Let me tell you!! Big band sounds will reverberate in Russ Savatt Park on Main Street, Kings Park, on August 9, 2013 at 7:30 PM when the Northport Jazz Band performs. Brian Donnelly leads this 17-member band which features two vocalists, Megan DeRiso and Linda Catania. This free, outdoor concert is presented by the Kings Park Civic Association, the Kings Park Chamber of Commerce, and the local business community. Special business sponsor of this event is Shanahan’s Restaurant and Bar. Please bring seating to The park is next to Ralph’s Ices; please bring seating. The Northport Jazz Band is an ensemble of retired professional musicians and music teachers dedicated to performing big band jazz on Long Island. The band’s goal is for people of all ages to experience big band music. Some of the venues the band has played are the Huntington Arts Cinema, Northport Family Night, a number of Long Island libraries, the American Air Power Museum, public bandshells, and private parties. Band leader Brian Donnelly is a retired concert band teacher and conductor of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Band. Band members are: Gail Alberti, Dave Bligh, Ken Cook, Doug Dean, Scott Diamond, Al Duboski, Lee Itzler, Bill McGuire, Matt Maier, Tom Pandel, Jeff Pizaz, Guiseppe Rappa, Lorenzo Simpson, Sara Turkiew, and Steve Whitthoft. In the event of inclement weather, the concert will be at the RJO Middle School, corner of 99 Old Dock Road (entrance on Church Street.)
