Music of the Day: MC5, The Motor City is Burning MC5 was a porto-punk group emerging out of the Detroit area in 1964. Angry, white and hard-rocking, MC5 crystallized the counterculture movement at its most volatile and threatening. Embracing the Black Power movements call for white radicals to challenge racism in white communities, MC5 embodied radical anti-racism. This somewhat controversial extended cover of the Hooker tune features lyrics tat praise the role of Black Panther snipers during the Detroit Insurrection of 1967.
