Music review : Happy New Year Release date : 24 October 2014 Composer: Vishal and Shekhar As a heist film centred round a dance competition, Happy New Year provides plenty of fodder for composers Vishal and Shekhar and lyricist Irshad Kamil to showcase their way with sounds. And theyve delivered, with seven original tracks, one electronic version, a variation, a medley and an instrumental number. Opening song India Waale has Neeti Mohan, Vishal, Shankar Mahadevan and KK delivering a rousing song that matches the energy of director Farah Khans previous film Om Shanti Oms title track. Its techno-driven electronic version isnt as catchy. Manwa Laage is a soothing love song. Shreya Ghoshal and Arijit Singh transport you to the sweet-and-simple 90s. Sukhwinder Singh is in his element on the celebratory and rustic Satakli. Lovely starts off with a Middle Eastern tune and progresses into Punjabi song with some rapping, nicely composed by Dr Zeus along with Vishal and Shekhar. Kanika Kapoor, Ravindra Upadhyay, Miraya Varma and Fatehs voices work well together on Jiwan Mann and Kumaars words. Its other version Kamlee (solely by Dr Zeus) is even better. World Dance Medley is an intelligently produced mix of all the originals songs, and leading man Shah Rukh Khans dialogue. The cheesy Nonsense Ki Night has Mika Singh translating Hindi idioms directly into English (courtesy Farah, Vishal and Shekhar). Dance Like A Chammiya is a fun item number by Sunidhi Chauhan and Vishal. Sharabi, composed and sung by Manj Musik with Vishal and Shekhar (and singer Nindy Kaur), is a Punjabi party track. Composer John Stewart Eduri gives a dose of thrill and suspense in instrumental number The Heist.
