Music time!!! Blessing time!!! (Politics get thee behind me!) So… There’s a story to this song. I was 17, fresh out of high school, waiting for JAMB results to come out so I can jump into the next phase. For the moment, I was enrolled in a computer school, learning corel draw and powerpoint. Heading home one day, I walked by an older guy and he said hi. He was, like, 30, and for a 17 year old girl, that’s old. So I just smiled and kept walking and he followed and tried all he could to strike up a conversation. I let it fall to the ground. He followed me to the bus-stop and before I got on a bus, he tried one last time; held my hand and asked: “Just tell me, what do you like?” I got in the bus and answered, “Music.” (stupid driver was supposed to drive off that minute to perfect the scene but the retard was waiting for passengers still taking a shower at home). That gave him ample time to build on that one response. “What kind of music?” “Hip hop, RnB, Rap…” “What about Rock?” “Nah!” “Soft rock??” “Nah!” “I’ll get you a collection, listen to it and tell me what you think. Soft rock is cool. You’ll like it.” So he brought a cassette to the computer school two days later. I listened to it with my Walkman all the way home. And I fell in love with soft Rock! OMG! I fell hard, I obsessed over every song in that cassette and knew the lyrics. Dude travelled a week later to London. No GSM, no email, so that was goodbye. Then my busy-body uncle came visiting and mistakenly took the cassette along to the US. And I mourned my loss. To console myself I sang my favourite song in that cassette everyday for years- as I showered, washed the dishes, did my laundry. So yesterday, I thought to just check it out on the internet with pieces of the lyrics left in my head (since I didn’t know the name of the artist); and VIOLA! It’s right there. The song is ‘Love At First Sight’ by Styx (no, it doesn’t apply to the situation. I wasn’t in love and nothing happened between us). I found the song and it is such a beauty.
