Musician of the Week: Bassekou Kouyaté We met Bassekou in London, where he was performing with our friend Baaba Maal in July 2012. He is one of the true masters of the n’goni, an ancient traditional lute found throughout West Africa, and he has collaborated with many musicians in and outside of Mali. His new album, “Jama Ko”, was named album of the year in the 2013 European World Music Charts, and it features Taj Mahal, Khaira Arby, Mocky Salole and many others.
