Musing on a beautiful instruction that Sacinandana Swami passed on - TopicsExpress

Musing on a beautiful instruction that Sacinandana Swami passed on during a private conversation between him, me and Sri Radhika, a few years ago when he was staying with us. He was talking about how we tend to become self-absorbed when something disturbing is happening to us, and how that is actually the time we should actively seek to help others even more. He told a story that illustrated why, from a spiritual point of view, we should always be in a giving mood. And then he said, You know, even if someone doesnt believe in God or that giving is good for them spiritually, they might reflect on the following and develop faith in giving - to wit, this entire (material) universe is designed to TAKE. It takes our health, our beauty, our youth, our money, our family, our life, everything. But when you give, it throws this arrangement out of balance. And to ensure equilibrium, the universe compensates by giving you back. So, people should never be afraid to give. Giving can be of so many kinds. Money, for sure (and in spiritual organizations, it is always needed to carry on their work). Also our time, our energy, and most importantly, our kindness in all our dealings with other entities, human or otherwise. As we enter a new year, this is what I want to reflect on and improve in my own life.
