Muslim/Muslim Ticket Your view? PDPs apologist asked. Why my view? Okay, no qualms, if you insist but dont expect anything pleasant. He nodded for firing on. With keen interest, I have observed series of argument for or against Buhari/Tinubu Presidential Ticket as regards to political/religious reality of Nigerians. Some even argued that it would be tantamount to political harakiri, suicide and host of unfamiliar terms. A very good friend of mine even said that anyone who ignores and postulates an intellectual winning formula on this ticket must be living outside the shore of Nigeria and such fellow may be out of Nigerian political reality. What a paroxysm of ignorance ! In reality, what he said is nothing but the truth. Nevertheless, my view might be unpopular on this but I believe it is noteworthy. What role does religion play in our dear country? Some argue that religion is the centrepiece for human development. As religion to Nigeria obviously not ! But rather self-fulfilment and attainment in life of few privileged religious leaders. Looking at religion from from Richard Halversons observation on church, it is crucial examining religion from historical epoch. In the beginning, religion was a fellowship of men and women centered on humanity. Then, religion moved to Greece where it became aphilosophical. Again, it embarked on explorative journey to Rome where it was turned to be an institution. Next it moved to Europe where it was addressed as culture. On the dynamic journey, it got to America where it was viewed as enterprise. Let me add Africa to it to make it crystal clear its role in Nigeria. Religion moves to Africa where it becomes a capitalist mode of operation to achieve selfish end and sheer wickedness. As Dr Martin Luther King, Jr rightly pointed out that any religion that professes to be concerned with the souls of men, and is not concerned with the slums that damned them, the economic conditions that strange them, and the social conditions cripple them is a dry-as-dust religion. Such a religion is the mind that marxist like see- an opiate of the people- Stride towards Freedom- page 36. Look, the same religion described above is now the determining factor to cripple our political leaning. Leave religion out of politics, its practitioners have bastardised its leanings and replace it with American mode of capitalism with the aim of exploiting cogregants via brainwashing for their inordinate ambition of being the public-focus-attention-seekers of stupendous affluence. One may say we are not politically matured for this. Therefore, it is noteworthy that our political immaturity is the forthset origo of our predicament. What should be our greatest concerns, in my own view, is who possesses the potential idiosyncracy and leadership to take Nigeria out of this present crisis irrespective of religious affiliations and if a candidate must be disqualified, that should be done on credibility other than religious basis.
