Must read for Cricket fans (Read it fully ): Clear view about NRR: NRR = (Total No.Of Runs For the team/Total Number of Overs) - (Total No.Of Runs Against the team/Total Number of Overs) Before MI and RR match: MI = for(1985/256.5)- against(1981/253.3) = (1985/(256 5/6)) - (1981/(253 3/6) [convert 256.5 as mixed fraction like 256 5/6 since 6 balls are bowled in an over] = (1985/256.833)-(1981/253.5) MIs NRR before RR match = -0.086 RR= for (1966/249.5) - agaisnt(1969/258.2) Calculate this like the previous one and you will get RRs NRR before MI match = +0.247 During RR match: RR scored 189 in 20 overs which means add 189 runs and 20 overs in for column for RR and 189 runs, 20 overs in against column for MI Let X be the No.of Runs scored by MI, Y be the Number of overs played by MI, then MI=[for(1985+X)/(256.833+Y)]- against [(1981+189)/(253.3+20)] = [(1985+X)/(256.833+Y)] - 7.934 RR= for [(1966+189)/(249.5+20)] - against [(1969+X)/258.333+Y)] = 7.986 - [(1969+X)/258.333+Y)] For MI to get into playoff MI should have higher NRR than RR. So, the equation is like this: MI NRR > RR NRR { [(1985+X)/(256.833+Y)] - 7.934 } > { 7.986 - [(1969+X)/258.333+Y)] } {[(1985+X)/(256.833+Y)] + [(1969+X)/(258.333+Y)]} > [7.986+7.934] {[(1985+X)/(256.833+Y)] + [(1969+X)/(258.333+Y)]} > 15.920 Here comes two cases: Case 1: The NRR was calculated for MI to score the minimum winning runs which means MI needs to score190. Substituting that as X=190 in the above equation gives Y: {[2175/(256.833+Y)] + [2159/(258.333+Y)]} > 15.920 solve this and you will get a quadratic equation of 0> 15.920Y^2 + 3867.443Y - 60109.56 So Y can be either 14.658 or 257.588. 257.588 cant get real in this case so Y < 14.658 In other words Y < 14.4 overs [14 4/6= 14.66] And hence they gave the equation as MI need to win 190 in 14.3 overs Case 2: Since 14.3 was bowled, Now they looked for how much runs to be scored in 14.4 overs. The NRR was calculated for MI to score some X runs in 14.4 overs, which means substitute Y =14 4/6= 14.667 in the equation we derived earlier. {[(1985+X)/(271.5)] + [(1969+X)/273]} > 15.920 solving this you will get 544.5X > 103493.94 which means X > 190.071 runs Under this case MI need a minimum of 191 in 14.4 overs to get qualified for Playoffs over RR. And they scored 195. If they scored 1 run in that last ball (14.4 overs) the NRR will be looking this RR = 0.0776 and MI=0.0771. So, at that ball MI needed minimum 2 runs to get qualified for the playoff. Running a two would sound weird, as they need just 1 run to win. So, their only legitimate option was to hit a boundary. Behind this single ball, there was this much of calculations and you guys simply sit and say the match was fixed. Even if the match was fixed, I am completely happy to have seen a match like this giving lots of work to Maths and players and entertaining us in some different level. Cricket is our religion and I still have my responsibilities to save the games name which gave me a lot of memory, peace and happiness. If you hate a team troll them and their fans in some other way. But stop using the word Fixed, else stop watching the IPL. Btw, I am not an MI fan in this season but still I love the entire IPL more than any teams in this season. Dont blame a game/tournament which is giving you a wonderful entertaining summer since 2008 just for the sake of your cheap trolls. PS: Not Blaming any selected team fans. Its just to all those who say IPL is fixed.
