Mustelid Magnificence! A playful family of River Otters (Lontra canadensis) surprised Lori Dunn and I one day as we explored Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge in eastern North Carolina. Otters (my favorite animal ever) are so fast, and so fluid, that there was barely time to grab our cameras before these beautiful animals disappeared. By some miracle, this pair paused for a split second to look back at me, before sliding into the dark waters of a roadside canal.
