Mutilated animals found in Lynn Haven, Fla: please contact the Bay County Sheriff at 850-747-4700 or Crime Stoppers at 850-785-TIPS with any information As more mutilated animals are reportedly found, residents of Lynn Haven, Fla. are concerned police aren’t doing enough to investigate, according to WJHG. A few weeks ago, two cats were found decapitated in Lynn Haven. Police told residents they died from coyote attacks. Earlier this month, mutilated cats were also found in the Bay Point area. Neighbors there say additional decapitated cats were discovered but had not been reported to police. More recently, Leilani Butler found a dead squirrel in her driveway. According to WJHG, Butler says the squirrel was found in the same position as the two cats when they were found: “decapitated, with its tail pointing straight out towards her house and its feet in a right angle.” Residents don’t buy the story that a coyote is responsible for the killings. When Sandra Cassaday found a decapitated cat near her home, she described the cat’s injuries as “surgical,” with “clean cuts,” and said she thinks a person is responsible. Yet when Cassaday reported the killing to the Lynn Haven Police Department, she was told coyotes were to blame. Martin Main, an expert on coyotes, believes the way the cats were found is not consistent with the way a coyote would hunt and eat its prey, stating “If a coyote killed a cat, you almost certainly would not find the cat.” Main said the same would be true if an owl or an eagle was taking the cats, and if a dog or fox killed the animals, there would have been bite marks. The fact that no blood was found near any of the animals also leads Main to believe that the animals were killed elsewhere. Please contact the Bay County Sheriff at 850-747-4700 or Crime Stoppers at 850-785-TIPS with any information.
