Mutual understanding for exchanging pictures between the - TopicsExpress

Mutual understanding for exchanging pictures between the photographers of newspapers are very old practice in many cities. Nowadays it is also very normal seeing TV cameramen taking camera-to-camera ‘transfer’ with cable of an event. The funniest things we see the same footage is being aired by different channels with watermark as their “Exclusive”. Newspaper houses recruits a battery of photographers for covering the events round the clock but international agency photographers like me has no choice and it’s a ‘one-man-show’, so they have to choose the event according to the relevance of the news. If anything missed by chance or could not reach the distance, we have to pick up pictures either on mutual understanding with good friends of newspapers or buy it on merit of the news event with due credit or otherwise. IT IS A 365-DAYS MARATHON. In continuation of my earlier post on Aug. 27, many of us seen the byline of a particular agency photographer of Europe on assignments where he was not present and/or working on the same day same time in different urban and rural locations maintaining a distance of about 100 kilometer. SUPERMAN! I have no grudge personally on his picking up pictures from different persons but putting byline on others work? The question of ETHICS arises here.
