Mweene joins Downs as fifth keeper Free State Stars goalkeeper Kennedy Mweene will complete his move to Mamelodi Sundowns this afternoon after finally agreeing personal terms with the big spending Brazilians last night. Mweene put pen to paper on a three-year deal that makes him the fifth keeper on the club’s books. According to KickOff’s contacts, Free State Stars gave Sundowns the go ahead to talk to Mweene a few weeks ago after the two clubs agreed on a transfer figure. Talks over the player’s personal terms have been ongoing for the past few weeks, between Sundowns’ senior legal and commercial manager Yogesh Singh and Mweene’s representatives. The two parties have now come to an agreement, paving the way for 28-year-old to complete his move to Chloorkop. Mweene – who is the first choice of the Zambia national team – will be registered as a non-foreigner as he has permanent residence in South Africa, having already spent eight years in the country. The 2012 Africa Cup of Nations winner has been the first choice goalkeeper Free State Stars since his second season at the club and has almost 250 games to his name for the Bethlehem-based club.
