My 13 year old daughter and I discussed an issue yesterday that boggled her mind. I let her watch this video and she sat there and watched it the whole way with me. About 45 minutes long but very much worth the watch. She posed alot of questions. You see she loves dance. She is very good at it and is creative. She has even choreographed some of her own dances. And she also has dance class at school. I have complimented her for her talent and tried to be supportive. But i have not been straight forward cause i dont want to crush her spirit. She lives and breathes this stuff and from time to time i make comments to bring her back to the reality of it all. I tell her that her talent should be used for God. I told her beforehand not to let dance distract her from God and she would say the obvious in response Im not dad. But as i evaluate her life over the last few months i have seen that this innocent desire for dance has pulled her away from listening to the Christian radio station she use to love listening to. She knew the songs and the words. But now its about the modern pop dances which i admit are awesome but not beneficial. These dances use a tremendous amount of stamina, creativity, and flexibility. But over the last few weeks i have asked God to help me communicate the truth to her in a way that wont crush her spirit. Teenagers are quick to think that we dont understand them or that were old fashion. But God took me to this video which at the first few minutes seems like just Christians opposing dancing but then it begins to get deeper and gives a great explanation on the subject with plenty of dance footage. I recommend you watch it with your kids if you want them to know the truth and if you love them. She was in deep thought afterward and asked some questions. I dont know if this will change her whole perspective but the Word was sown in her heart. She can understand a little better by this presentation.
