My 16 year old male cat was just diagnosed with Chronic Kidney - TopicsExpress

My 16 year old male cat was just diagnosed with Chronic Kidney Disease. My vet is 88 years old, and Ive been feeling shes been too senile to practice, and losing her touch the last couple years now. Though my dad took the call, considering how much we paid for the blood analysis, she gave him far too little info. She did not stage the disease, or even recommend low-protein foods. She simply said his creatinine was too high (of course she didnt specify how high), and said that it indicated kidney failure. She told us to give him plenty of water, and wet food, and hung up. I freaked out for a minute, not realizing kidney failure is chronic, and not acute in felines, then googled renal failure in cats. Thinking of taking to another vet in the next week. Surely there are others here with older cats who suffer renal disease. Any dietary recommendations. Are there veterinary pharmaceuticals to treat renal disease? Thanks.
