My 1st National Record---Reeves Dead Lift! In my competition - TopicsExpress

My 1st National Record---Reeves Dead Lift! In my competition last weekend my opening lift was the Reeves Dead Lift, created by the incredible body builder, strongman & actor, Steve Reeves, 50 years ago! This lift means a lot to me as he & Jack LaLanne have always been my heroes since the late 1950’s. There are only 5 men who have lifted over 300 lbs/136 kg and 2 men over 400 lbs/181.4 kg. according to record books! On my opening lift I pulled 235 lb/106.59 kg for a new age group/weight class National Record. Age Group: 60-64 Weight class: 80 kg/ 176 lb I weighed in at 174 lb/79 kg I hadn’t done this lift since 2008 and decided 6 weeks before the contest to enter & began pulling again. Pictured below is Steve Reeves lifting 400 lb/181.4 l kg and I’m pulling 235 lbs/106.59 kg. I have lifted considerably more in training and plan to max out in my upcoming competitions! This is very stressful on the central nervous system; more so than conventional dead lifts, especially, for us little guys with smaller hands & shorter arms. You can see the difference in arm length between my lift and the photo of Steve Reeves! With 4 more events to go I decided not to continue with the Reeves DL to be sure I did not overload my CNS. It paid off well as I placed 1st in all 5 events and set 2 more National Records! (Records Pending upon approval of the governing board)
