My 2 cents on the SOTU: Awesome speech but I cant help but sense the irony. Obama may say all he wants but how much can he actually achieve. Just visually notice how partisan Congress is from this speech. Almost every time Obama talks about his accomplishments or mentions a planned policy to help the working class, hardly any Republican, if any as best symbolized by John Boehners inertness, applauded the President while the Democrats are ecstatically rising and applauding. (And this of course is not a new thing) So much for talking but if Congress remains this partisan, we are probably in for another extremely unproductive Congress. The most exciting thing for me about this speech is the plan to make community college free. Community college is one of the most effective tools in bridging opportunity gaps in recent times and with 40% of US college students enrolling in community colleges, this can be a truly groundbreaking policy that can improve the lives of millions. But then of course it probably wont pass Congress.
