My 20 year old son is sleeping at my place tonight. Hes not feeling well. As I passed by his bed I stopped to check on him. He was sleeping so quietly. He was so still. I touched his forehead and waited until he stirred, until I could see the rise and fall of his breathing in the movement of the blankets. Then I felt reassured. Twenty years ago I did the same thing, nightly. He was an infant then, and hes a grown man now, but it doesnt change. I suppose when hes 50 and Im 80, it will be the same.
