My # 4 fave movie of 2014: Snowpiercer. Not what a lot of people are used to from their comic book adapted movies being set on a train racing through a snowy, dystopic world with the various train cars representing strict, slavish class distinctions (unless you read a lot of the more independent comic books perhaps), but thats what you have with Snowpiercer. I was already a long time fan of director Joon-ho Bong and was eagerly anticipating this movie and wasnt disappointed. Plus this was my very first VOD movie. (It never played at my town--not even at the arthouse theater.) Starring Chris Evans (whos also in another top ten movie fave of mine from this past year....oh what could THAT be?) Tilda Swinton in yet another marvelous character role you wont soon forget and an overall marvelous cast in an ambitious allegorical adventure/thriller. Are we increasingly in a world of haves and have nots? Maybe we are, but were all on the same train ultimately and if it goes off the tracks well all be in the same boat together (whos cringing?)
