My 84 year old father, a 30 year veteran of the NYPD and ex-Marine received a Red Light ticket for not coming to a full stop as he was making a right turn into the Kohls shopping center in Shirley. This is a man who is honest to a fault, volunteers for Good Will, and donates regularly to various charities. He once bought a used wallet at a yard sale. Later, when he realized there was a dollar in it, he went back and returned it. He will not get a chance to defend himself because these Red light cams are nothing more than a way to extract and extort money from people. Its a back door tax, and Im having a hard time understanding why its Constitutional, since its clearly in violation of the 6th Amendment. He is being denied his right to confront his accuser (in this case a camera, not even a police officer).
