My 9 year old asked me today, Momma, why do you say I love you to us so much? I had to stop and think; not because of why I do it but do I really say it so much she would ask. I realized that I do say it many times a day. I hug my children, kiss their hair and cheeks and cherish them with my whole heart. So my answer was honest and sad - I explained that I didnt have parents cared if I felt loved and I never wanted my children to ever wonder how I felt about them or how much they mean to me. She smiles and simply says, Okay. I love you too. Then walks away back to whatever interests her at that time. I only hope that one day when her daughter asks the same question the answer is, Because my mom showed me how to love, so that I could show you.
