My ADHD teen likes to collect pieces of trash on his computer desk; altoid tins and the tops ripped off of soda cans; he tears up tiny rubber bands and eats cereal by the handful from the box. Cleaning it up pisses him off. He also likes to iron money. He takes crumpled bills, soaks them in water, and irons them until they are super flat and clean, like bills you get out of the ATM. Hell play a rhythm game, or one of those tap these moving things really fast games for hours and hours a day, the most tedious demanding repetitive crap imaginable, but he becomes like Ghandi opposing the British at any kind of organized systematic school work, preferring to sit endlessly doing nothing, if that is the punishment. So were home schooling and looking for things that inspire and create self directed effort and all that crap and doing no better than the regular school, but at least he seems happier. Interestingly, I gave him a tedious data entry job, and he did it, by the deadline, for money, saying, man. this is awful. But he did it. Sigh.
