My ALS challenge - no, you wont see a bucket of ice water, but I challenge you to put your personal feelings aside for a moment and watch this video and then read the rest of what I am about to post. _______________ First off this post is not aimed at one particular person so please keep in mind this is from various comments and other things I have heard while in the public in regards to ALS. The first complaint is how annoying the facebook news feeds are with all the ice bucket challenges. First of all, thats good that it annoys you. Most of us had no idea what ALS was and that is has NO cure. The awareness level has worked. If your life revolves around your own little facebook world then you need to step back into reality and maybe dump a bucket of ice water over your own head to become aware of the world outside of the internet. Go for a walk, go fish, play with your kids or pets, visit family - get out of facebook if thats all you are concerned over. The next one is the critique if the use of water. I admit my first thought was of how wasteful it was but then I got to thinking... When we get dirt on our hands, when we smell bad, when we just feel unclean, we wash it away. ALS is a disease that needs the unawareness to be washed away, it needs a cure. If it takes a bucket of ice water to help wash away unknown and find a way to stop this disease and wash away the unawareness then is it truly a waste? Examine your own self: how often do you wash your car? That takes water. How long are your showers, do you really need to take that long? That takes water. How often do you take a shower, is it more than necessary? That takes water. If water is truly your concern then I challenge you to cut back on your own use and find a charity that supplies water to the less fortunate. ALS knows no age, race, religion, or if it be male or female. It could happen to anyone. Awareness of ALS is the project. Its working. If you choose to donate money to an ALS organization be cautious because like all research it, it could come from using stem cells from aborted babies. So be mindful of where your money goes.
