My Airport Prospecting Story Today... Normally, when I travel I turn off my prospecting antenna. Today was different, but not by my hand. Rather, By the hand of Brian Carruthers. Let me explain. I decided to take Brians book (Building an Empire) with me on my trip to SLC to read a second time. I love getting my shoes shined, so while I had a two hour layover in Denver I sat down to have them done. As I sat down the girl turned her head trying to read my book I was holding. She says to me: Network Marketing? Oh, thats hard! I was literally stunned. Speechless for five seconds, which will surprise anyone who knows me. I rapidly try to sound intelligent and try and remember a dozen or so lines I learned from Tom Schreiter. Instead of acting like a 34 year veteran I blurt out like a rookie and say: Whats hard about it Kelley? I did read her name tag and pulled that out of my prospecting bag. But, like a batter who had just experienced a 95-mph fast ball high and tight I dug in, I was in full force now. She replied: Ive been in two programs in the past. The last one I really loved the product, but it was so expensive. The people who got me involved said it would really sell itself, and that never happened. I continued chatting her up and asked how long she had been shining shoes--two months. I asked what she had done before--Mortgage loans executive assistance. I asked what made her change profession--she laughed and said she was dying in that office and wanted to get out and interact with happy people. As I sat there looking at Brians book and about my decision to grab it at 5:30 am rushing out the door to the airport a sense of excitement overcame me. A guy who sells hope everyday got his own hopes up! I realized how simple this business really is...again for the millionth time. She asked what program I was in--I told her. She asked if I had any samples on me and I didnt. I offered to send her one in the mail. She said sure, tell me when youre ready So, I grab my cell phone. As shes shining my shoes she gives me her address. Her name is spelled with two es like my daughter Kelley so we talked about why her mom named her that, etc. As I got up and paid and tipped her $20 she says: Dont forget me! I replied: Ill never forget you Kelley You see as clumsy as I performed today I succeeded. I gave myself a pat on the back and feel like Im making a difference in the world while Im here. Thats what we all really want, isnt it? Come join the Network Marketing Revolution! We do have a better way.
