My American Brothers and Sisters, I am confused. I just spent three and a half hours watching this oversight hearing on the news in regards to Obamacare. I am just an ordinary guy and normally I would not have the time to watch something like this. However, I am young guy and at the moment between jobs and I have no medical coverage. So, I figure I should watch this and see what all the fuss is about. So let me tell you what I saw and heard. I should warn you first, I am not a fact checker or a able to remember every single quote and I didnt DVR this. This was an oversight hearing. This means that some people thought something wrong was going on and they needed answers so they requested that some people or one person show up and provide some answers. I do not believe that this would have ever taken place if everything was working the way it should have been. Please correct me if I am missing the point of such hearings. This happened because there is an issue, challenge, problem, difficulty, etc,. Not because everything was running smoothly or on schedule or as it was intended. Republicans asked questions (even if they were a bit heated) about the problems, who what when where why kinda stuff. Who is responsible for overseeing this web site development. Who knew what, when they knew it, and who told them. It seemed more like a hearing or meeting I would have to endure if something similar happened to me at my job. Democrats asked questions they already knew the answers to and made every attempt to show that there was a diamond in the turd somewhere. I am sure that in some cases things are working for correctly for a very small number of people. Hell, it could be a small to medium number of people. That is not why the hearing is even taking place. Its wonderful and everything is going to be fixed and it works. I have a letter from somone who says, thank you. You ass is sitting in that chair, listening to this woman, NOT because its fantastic. But, because I the tax payer and one of millions in this country can NOT access a website that was promised to me, built with my money and the money of my neighbors. Not to mention its kind of the law that I go there to get what you want me to. Oh yeah, and it doesnt work! Kathleen Sebelius sat in her chair and started out pretty well. I assume responsibility she began saying. Its all on me. she said later. However, the answers later on changed from I, me, and my, switched to they, we, and I was told or I was informed or I dont know. There was much talk about security and following S.O.P. for integrated systems. I am not a computer or software moron so I understand this completely. I can tell you what I think happened here and I would venture to guess I am pretty close to spot on. For some time they farted around with bid proposals. While they did this politics as normal was happening people fighting over keeping the law or getting rid of it, Whatever! So things went on at a snails pace for some time. They hired some people told them what they wanted and they began to do it. Meanwhile, someone would have an idea and they would ask for implementation. They would take that request to software and program developers and insist on its addition to the package. This went on for a while. A ton of back and forth we want this! ok but this is going to create this or we have never done that before. back and forth.. back and forth.. It was never taken serious to begin with. THEN someone looked at a calendar and realized OMG! This thing is going to have to roll out in 6 months. Gas this mother up and lets go! Security testing? 2 or 3 months? Debug the code? Remove more stuff? Add more stuff? Well, Im the boss and I want this done yesterday! I said this was going to roll out the door and I even told the President of the USA, October 1st! Okay, I know I said I wanted this done this way but we will do it later. We need applicants! Dont show them pricing first. Make them create an account. Wait.. and scrap the 3 months of security stuffs you now have 2 weeks. Wait. and Spanish reading / speaking people dont care they can go to Mexico for cheaper services and medicine. Dont add that stuff either. Just barebones the whole damn thing and get me something that might work by October 1st. This ladies and gentlemen is how it was done. I didnt watch last weeks hearings with contractors but Im sure if you watch them now, what they were saying can fit right in to my description above. I did what I was asked to do. I cut what was asked, I added what they wanted, and shuffled it around as instructed. I performed my job as I was paid to do. The end result is the what you got. If you require my services for more then I will need to be compensated. -Amen Here is the question and for me this is a pretty big one. It touches a lot of area but the fundemental question is the same. Here we go, you ready? How is it that the goverment who is so interested in data cant provide data on anything that is something data is useful to have? Where are the guns from Fast and Furious? How many? Who has them now? How did they get there? Who was responsible? (Wait.. No data. You cant tell me where your guns are and you want to take mine away or for me to tell you where mine are?) Who was involved in Begazi? Who knew? How many? Where are they? How did they do it? What was done? (Wait.. Um,. No data.) How many people from my state have applied or completed or refused services on the broken web site? How many from the internet? How many over the phone? How many on paper? How many people have actually been able to successfully do this? (Wait.. Um,... No data.) I think most people missed it when she said. Internet apps are entered into the online systems and telephone apps are entered into the online systems oh and yeah.. paper apps are entered into the online systems. Im sorry I should have said, The government is great at getting data on the people they shouldnt and when they dont need it. Data on allies or phone records or whatever that isnt of value to laws and bills they are passing NOW. The comedy of the whole thing was at the end of the hearing. She was asked why is it that the people claiming to run the show and is responsible for this new healthcare system isnt enrolled? First it was because it is illegal for me to switch from the federal health care we all enjoy. Then it was I dont think I can. Then it was asked in a hypothetical situation if you were wrong and could remove your federal benefits would you? Right before Dem-Waxman says yeah answer that. You can hear her lament. Please, dont make me do this. before she concided a yes she would enroll in program that is designed for everyone else. So I sit here, still confused. A law was passed. I have to have medical insurance. Its the LAW. At the moment I can hardly afford to pay my bills and I see a fire on the horizon. From what was explained to me today. There isnt even a way on the web page that doesnt work for me to apply for extension or get some kind of waiver of benefits. The woman in charge doesnt even want to use it. Even the President seems uninterested in using it. In fact he seems interested in saying whatever it takes to make sure everyone else does. Now it seems like that fire is headed my direction.
