Jen AAFES The Army & Air Force Exchange Service is an agency of the United States Department of Defense. You will often hear Soldiers and families refer to it as “the PX” or “the exchange.” It is a department store that sells everything from office supplies to toys. Its dual missions are to provide quality merchandise and services of necessity and convenience to authorized customers at uniform low prices, and to generate reasonable earnings to supplement appropriated funds for the support of United States Army and Air Force Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) programs. In order to buy any products from AAFES you must have a current valid military ID although anyone may enter the store at most locations. There is no tax on any items purchased which comes in handy especially when purchasing big items like a TV or new washer and dryer. There is a website you can purchase online at shopmyexchange if you choose to do so. They also have a facebook page. Look under “Exchange” to find it. Most PX stores have a food court that Soldiers and families may dine at as well. Most of us fill up our gas tank while we are there because they have the best prices on gas no matter where you are stationed at. Inside each PX there is usually a few other small stores like hair salons, florists, uniform shop, dry cleaners etc. AAFES does match competitor’s prices also. AAFES motto is “We go where you go” and this is something they live up to. They have set up stores in both Iraq and Afghanistan so that our deployed Soldiers can have a few conveniences from home. The employees that run these stores are employees of AAFES and oftentimes volunteer to deploy right with our Soldiers because they believe in the mission so much! So needless to say, we all shop at AAFES whenever we can and hope you do too!
