My Aunt Kathryn Osterman passed two days ago. She was 96. My cousin (one of her daughters) wrote: Kathryn was ...a woman of uncommon inner strength and gracious manner. Absolutely this is my Aunt in a nutshell. I feel so very, very blessed to call Kathryn my Aunt. Her presence in my heart has carried me through many moments of doubt: I simply recall how, in conversation, her absolute focus on me conveyed without question that I was important to her. And I ride that force of loving attention to wherever I need to go. My Aunt Kathryn gave this attention fully and freely to each person she spoke with. It is a gift that I strive to give in MY life. In my mind and heart, Aunt Kathryn is legendary--her love for Bob and her determination defied the then-current thinking that he was destined to a lesser life and, because of her strength and courage, we ALL grew to see the grace and beauty in each of us...no matter what. I am grateful. Grateful for all the gifts she gave me and all the grace she showed me. And yes, for all of Aunt Kathryns chocolate chip cookies that I have ever made, eaten, and shared. Bless you, Aunt Kathryn. Bless your beautiful family. And bless all that you have been and all that you have done and all that you have helped me become. May Gods light and love shine upon you and grant you eternal peace. .
