My Bets 1st Feb 2014 - Some real high quality racing and I have two maximum bets today. Its a really busy day. 3.20 Weth - Shuthefrontdoor - ran as if amiss last time but apparently is going well at home and is easily the best horse in the race. Maximum bet. 2.05 Ffos Las- Saphir Du Rheu - is improving hand over fist and looks a cut above handicap class- I make him a good bet to take this before moving on to tackle Big Bucks in the Stayers race at Cheltenham. 3.45 Ffo Las- Kayf Moss looks one to follow and I make him a maximum bet to take this. The form of his last win over Midnight Request has been franked during the week. Confident selection. 2.25 Sandown- A fascinating contest (if the meeting can go ahead). Oscar Whiskey is obviously a leading candidate for the Golden Miller - and has done well as a Novice Chaser over around 2.5 miles. He is to be respected. Today he meets Benvolio who has also had a good season. Benvolio has more of staying profile and will need 3 miles or more before long. Today Im going to side with Benvolio here and make him a bet- Timeform has them only 1lb apart on the ratings -yet on Betfair Oscar is 1.38 while Benvolio is 4.5. On decent ground i would expect the speed of Oscar Whiskey to see off Benvolio, however the ground at Sandown will be desperate and we could end up with a real slog through the mud. I think therefore that the staying prowess of Benvolio to see him through. Oscar Whiskey has been beaten twice over 3 miles on heavy ground and Im hoping Daryl Jacobs will take him on today and make this a real test.
