My Childhood Memories 50 :) Madras To Pondicherry Movie :) When I was in 6th std, a Tamil movie by name Madras To Pondicherry was screened in Royal Theatre located next to our school. After the initial rush, the theatres used to sometimes offer concessional viewing for school students accompanied by teachers. Accordingly, an announcement was made for a special evening show of this movie, exclusively for students. I was certain that my Grandparents would not permit me and so I never bothered. In our school, in order to avoid possible harassment to girl students, they were let off 5 minutes earlier than the boys every time the school broke for lunch or evening closure. On this particular day, Sucharita was waiting near my class room for me to come out, to convey to her home that she was going with the teachers for the movie & would reach home late. The school had a taboo of girls & boys interacting and I was a bit shy to talk to her in school. So as I came out, I looked the other way & started walking out. She ran behind me yelling what she wanted to convey. I shouted back that I wont. I also had a secret pleasure, in trying to deny her an opportunity which I myself didnt have! She proceeded for the movie with the hope of me conveying the news, which I didnt. After the movie, she reached back around 6.45pm. Her mom was angry & stopped her outside the house. She asked her to do 20 squats holding the ears. So far, I enjoyed the scene. But I had not bargained for the next part. She was then told to stay outside itself whole night. Now I too got nervous!! My Granny who was an elder, was silently watching the whole thing till then. She now came forward and told Sucharita to ask her mother for pardon and suggested to her mother to forgive her. I felt relieved when she was finally taken in by her mother. Children commit mistakes at times not knowing its seriousness & I was equally a party to this unsavoury episode !!!
