My DAD HERO story: I was 5, it was the flood of 1972, wiped out a whole county. My dad was up all night sandbagging. We were the last to leave. We got the bridge towards safety and the National guard said "no", too dangerous to cross. (And even more dangerous to stay!) There was already water coming across the bridge. My dad, being well, my dad said "screw that" and took off as fast as he could across the bridge to the other side just as the bridge gave way behind us. Saved my families life that night and showed me at a very early age what true courage, dedication to the community for staying as long as he could to help save the town we loved so much, and to what must have been one of the scariest things he has ever had to do, for his family! Close call, dad, but it changed me inexplicably forever - you showed me strength of character, lack of fear, true commitment to your community, family and trusting in God. Thank you dad for having cajones! I love you. We all do!
