My Dad often spoke about Woody. Woody was found wandering around - TopicsExpress

My Dad often spoke about Woody. Woody was found wandering around and locked up, (before he was diagnosed with Huntingtons). By the time the doctors called his wife to say He had delusions of grandeur, he thinks hes a famous singer and she said The DOCTORS are crazy and went to bust him out, Woody had made friends with the mental patients and wanted to stay. So they visited Woody, sprung him to sing and hang out and Arlos Mom would go into Greystone alone to fetch her husband, leaving the kids (aged 6, 7 and 8 at the time) outside under a tree, Wed have a picnic and wed play before the tree, Nora says. It was less frightening. One 1956 note to Arlo, in Woodys deteriorating handwriting, refers to the magiky tree and is signed daddy me Woody Guthrie. Arlo relates how the family would sometimes leave Greystone with Woody to visit the homes of friends, where they would play music and goof off. Writes Arlo of his father, (H)is work was booming as he entered Greystone. And I think my mom really wanted him to understand and participate in it to some extent, as much as he could. And thats what we did. That was our life. This book is a series of unreleased letters, scraps of writings found and photos taken by the author who broke in to Wardy Forty found the treasure trove. Im looking for a copy. The cover is the kids with Woody under the Magiky tree where they played with their Dad.
