My Daily Bread Monday of the Second Week in Ordinary Time. A Reflection by Rev. Fr Festus A. Owakwue. First Reading: Heb. 5:1-10. Resp.: Psalm 110:1-4. Gospel: Mark 2:18-22. JESUS OUR HIGH PRIEST In the Gospel reading, we see Jesus defending His disciples. He call Himself the bridegroom. In the first reading, He is referred to as the high priest, appointed by the Father to save us from death through suffering. Human beings could not save themselves, but God did by allowing His only begotten Son to take our nature (and our sins upon Himself) in order to offer the eternal sacrifice on our behalf and save us. Haven died for us, He sent us His Spirit to renew us strengthen us that we might suffer for or be saviours to one another. Jesus saves us and give us the fruits and gift of His Spirit. Jesus is the eternal high priest. He shares His priesthood with us, hence He makes our offerings, prayers, sufferings and penance/fasting acceptable before the Father, through the Holy Spirit. Jesus mediates for us before the Father. Trust Him. Jesus defends and delivers us from evil. Trust Him. O Lord, fill us with Your Spirit today that we may be strong, happy and be saviour to one another. Bless your priests, and may we follow the example of our high priest, Jesus Christ. Amen. Have a blessed day Peace be with you
