My Deliverer - the last song Rich Mullins wrote before he died...what a legacy to leave behind!!! Thank you Rich for sharing with the world! I remember running into Rich at Harrys Uptown Bar & Grill in Wichita, Kansas, it was 1995. I was hanging out with some friends and went to the pay phone to call someone when this barefoot man, dressed in a heavy sweater and worn jeans came around the corner - as I made eye contact with those smiling eyes - I put the phone back on the receiver and said, O my God! You look like this singer, his name is Rich Mullins His hearty laugh followed with his raspy voice, I am Rich Mullins I looked at him and said, No youre not, youre not Rich Mullins (All the while thinking, what Christian, let alone a Christian singer would be in a place like this?) He said, Yes! I am Rich Mullins and he pulled out his wallet, opened it up and sure enough I saw his Illinois drivers license and there it was, his full name He was so fun to hang out with and just the easiest going, humble person I have ever met even until this day - if you didnt know who he was, you would have thought he was just a laid back guy that never left the 70s...I met him 8 years before I got sold out to Jesus - but his demeanor and love for humanity seeped into the crevices of my heart - and every now and then when I think of that moment of getting to exchange a moment in time with him, I am so glad that religion never had a chance on him - or else I may have never met him and been impacted in just a few short moments - because religion would have told him to not go to the local bar - but God had other plans!
