My European friend insists: “Islam like Christianity has been a considerable source of foreign conquest and colonisation.” My reply: “The vain attempt to draw moral equivalence reveals a mind guilty of inductive reasoning. The deductive approach would be: Islam and Christianity are comparable as both have demonstrated behaviors supportive of conquest. The deductive mind would then test that hypothesis (i.e., the scientific method) to prove or disprove. One approach would be an examination of the respective teachings, tracing the preponderant behavioral outcomes resulting. Another approach would be comparing motives for conquest, the results of those efforts, the behaviors of adherents during the occupation time, and the end game or ultimate outcome. A great litmus test in this comparative analysis would focus on slavery: why did it start, who was involved, how did it play out, how were people treated in the midst of it all, and what was the final outcome, plus how did all these behaviors interact with the differing doctrines involved. The inductive mind makes a broad generalization supported by a few specific observations, then leaves it at that, a convenient tool of the propagandist, but not a serious inquiry in an effort to get at the truth.” (A deductive approach readily shows Islam teaches conquest, Christianity teaches peace, and the comparative contributions of each tradition are vastly different, and largely connected to their core teachings.)
