My Expenses - More Details... I work very hard to keep my costs down as the MP for Northampton North and I pride myself on my low expenses. Before I was elected as your MP in 2010, I felt strongly about how the system was abused by certain individuals. These people did so much damage to public confidence in our public servants and politicians. I treat taxpayers’ money with great care and I have chosen from the beginning not to claim for any travel or food costs since being elected as an MP. Instead I have paid for these things from my own salary and not from any public source, or indeed from any private donations. At the start of this New Year I would like to outline my expenses and what I have claimed and what I do not: Petrol: £0 claimed since 2010 Trains: £0 claimed since 2010 Taxis: £0 claimed since 2010 Congestion Charge: £0 claimed since 2010 Food: £0 claimed since 2010 Foreign Trips: Zero trips taken at public expense since 2010. An underspend totalling over £67,000 on Office Costs since the May 2010 General Election An underspend totalling over £140,000 on Staffing Costs since the May 2010 General Election I have claimed in full for my London accommodation- this amounts to about £20,000 in annual rent which goes straight to a landlord for a one-bedroom flat I stay in after late-night votes in the Commons. The costs of my own home in Northampton I meet completely from my own salary.
