My Facebook page is dedicated to the celebration of what the Japanese call KAYOUKYOKU. According to Wikipedia it means a style of singing that is not based on emotion. I came of age in 1970s America. Unlike most of my fellow high school students I played in school-sponsored bands: Marching Band, Jazz/Rock Ensemble, Concert Band, and Pitt Orchestra. I wasnt the best trombonist but my heart was in the right place. While the majority of my fellow students listened to Janis Joplin, Simon and Garfunkel, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, and Grand Funk Railroad, I and my band cohorts listened to alternative music. Some might call it our grandfathers music (i.e. Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey, etc.), and some might call it our fathers music (i.e. Stan Kenton, Maynard Ferguson, etc.) but we liked to call it our own. All of their music formed us and we were happy for it. One of my positives influences is what is known as MOTOWN (that is, MOTOR TOWN, or Detroit City.) Today I like to listen and learn about Japanese music. The Japanese love everything that is American. In fact, they have a style of music call KAYOUKYOKU that closely mirrors MOTOWN. But it would be a mistake to think that the Japanese copied it. The history of KAYOUKYOKU goes back to the 1920s. https://youtube/watch?v=J1Q5-TIC5pc
