My Favorite Writers 1. Michael Herr (as a kid, I think I read his Vietnam book Dispatches maybe 20 times.) 2. Sara Paretsky (I love all of her V.I. Warshawski crime novels.) 3. George Orwell (I seem to find myself reading his books every couple of years. I love the mans essential honesty about things he couldnt even hide from himself.) 4. Tom Clancy (Red Storm Rising was the first hardcover novel I owned.) 5. Ernest Hemingway (For Whom the Bell Tolls is possibly the best novel I Have ever read.) 6. Harold Coyle (Team Yankee is one of my all-time favorite books.) 7. Elmore Leonard (I love his use of character, and sense of location as one of those characters.) 8. Stephen King (The Stand, his short fiction, how he makes writing well seem to be possible, if you like what you are writing well enough.) 9. Steven Pinker (my favorite science writer. I love the clarity of his language.) 10. Robert K. Massie (My favorite history writer, for Dreadnought, and Peter the Great. I aspire to be like them, and being clarity to the complex.)
