My Final Take on Buharis Running Mate I do not envy the - TopicsExpress

My Final Take on Buharis Running Mate I do not envy the incorruptible leader at this point in time. He must be under unbearable pressures to make a choice that will be acceptable to all stake holders in the party. I have read many commentators on the matter and I must confess that they are all entitled to their opinions. The critical thing for me is a winnable combination. I am convinced that if it is a party member from Daura that will deliver as a running mate, I will not hesitate to support that fellow. I have made my point that Gov. Rotimi Amaechi is better placed than others to compliment the General. Others are pushing for a South West partner which is understandable considering the apparent strength of the party in the zone. This is apparent because it has not been tasted to the limit. It failed in Ekiti and manifested in Osun. The South West governors must stand up to be counted if they really want a new Nigeria. The robust Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola stood up to be counted against all odds and delivered Nuhu Ribadu in 2011. My projection is that if the APC structure in south west is committed to a Buharis candidacy, it has the capacity to deliver a minimum of 60% of the zonal votes to him. With the exception of Fashola, no south west running mate will deliver more than additional 3% of zonal votes to the kitty. It does not matter if the person is an arch pope, high priest and ecclesiastical priest. It will even be worse if the candidate is seen as a poodle of any power center in the party. Fashola will even impact outside south west among Christians than an arch pope seen as a poodle. Having said that, it is important to state that a running mate position to Rotimi Amaechi will achieve three objectives: 1.Energize the base of the party in south south, south east and Christian north. This will bring enormous votes to the party. 2. Reduce the potential votes of President Jonathan by 5million in the south south and south east through effective implementation of polling booths monitoring system that will prevent allocation of votes as happened in 2011. 3.Empower contestants in south south and south east to win their respective positions. Unless there are other considerations beyond APC winning the Presidential mandate, I do not see why there should be hesitation in handing the VP slot to Amaechi.
