My Fishing Report 2am wake up to go and pick up my mate for a drive down south to fish off the stones. Cars packed the night before, and with high hopes we took off on our 3hr drive. Arriving just before sunrise it was a quick rock hop to get to our favoured ledge. After watching the swells for a couple of minutes we set up in the safest spot. First job get the burly cranking and catch some live baits. With the herring on the chew we had quickly stocked up our live bait tank/Rock pool with a dozen or so willing participants. With balloons rigged up and baits out kicking away it was only a matter of time before we had some action. Whilst waiting for the livies to get smashed we did some bottom bouncing and hooked up to a couple of Eagle Rays which we let live for another day, Shortly after releasing the Rays we had a hit on one of the balloons, not quite what we were after but a strike non the less. It was a bloody bolt cutter/Northwest Blowie. In the end he chomped thru the leader and we reset and waited for the next hit. It was much of a wait for the next bait to get taken and it was something big. There was no stopping it whatever it was as it run us into the reef ping went the leader and that was the last of the action on the balloons for the day. We ended up packing up around 1 but not before a random fly over by the Westpac rescue helicopter which came down and hovered in front of us to say hello. The climb back to the car was helped along by the thought of the cold beers waiting on ice in the boot before our drive home. Theres nothing better than a cold beer after a hell of a fishing mission.
