My Flash Review: This show has the potential to be the best - TopicsExpress

My Flash Review: This show has the potential to be the best comic based show on television today. The good: The Barry Allen character is perfect and it is acted brilliantly. I found myself actually relating to him. He was not overly cliche nor was he trying to be some tough action hero. You felt bad for him when he visits his dad in jail. You felt bad for him when he nearly died. You felt a little emotional when he wakes up from his coma and runs to find the girl he loves. You felt bad for him when the girl chose the pretty boy over him. You felt good for him when he expressed his desire to be a hero. You want him to solve this mystery about his mothers death. First time I saw images of the suit, I was not sold. But seeing it on camera, Im okay with it. First of all, the suit got altered several times in the episode. That tells me it is a work in progress. We will probably see a few versions of it. I love that they didnt just make the suit in a day. Rather, it was a suit designed for next generation fire fighting that was already in prototype phase. That is a great explanation. And no, sadly it did not pop out of a ring. The reinvention of characters is vital to this shows success. I think the failure of The Flash show from the early 90s was that the villains were still too goofy to watch. Last night they took Weather Wizard and made him just a guy that can alter the atmosphere around him based on the particle accelerator explosion that gave Flash his power. No one called him Weather Wizard at any point. While it is still kind of a dumb character, the show acknowledged how bizarre his super powers sounded. I have already seen images of Captain Cold and he looks to be reinvented as well. From what I read, he will be a slow and calculated villain (which is why they call him cold). The easter eggs and foreshadowing are all there and well done. Whereas Gotham kind of beats you over the head with Catwoman and Poison Ivy pretty much already being there characters, just little kid versions, this show just gives you a character who is still a long ways from becoming their comic counter part. We saw Eddie Thawne (Zooom) but he is a good guy cop at this point. We also saw references to Grods cage in STAR Labs. Caitlyn Snow (the STAR Labs tech girl) became Killer Frost in the comics but so far we see she is just a sad girl who just lost her fiance. The Flash tests his power out at a Ferris Air airport runway. Of course Carol Ferris is Hal Jordans girlfriend and eventual Saphire. Her family owns Ferris Air. There were others as well. But what I love is that they didnt beat me over the head with them. They are just subtle nods to things that may or may not happen. Dr Harrison Wells was great last night. The ability to see into the future will make this show something quite unique from the other super hero shows. The question of him being a good guy or villain makes this even more interesting. Obviously time travel is going to become part of this show at some point. The Bad: Really not a whole lot. The kid who played young Barry in the pilot was an awful actor and the bully scene was overly cliche and actually made no sense. Cisco Ramon, the other STAR Lab tech, was a little over the top and cliche at times. He is the nerdy lab tech with the one liners and overly excited personality. Overall this show looks so promising and I am very excited about the possibilities. He is a much more hopeful and fun character than Arrow and this show should provide a nice touch to the DCTV Universe.
