My Friday confession: As we submitted our building campaign commitment pledge online, God spoke piercing words into my heart: Its not about you Jenny. Ive heard Pastor Chad speak of impacting our communities and beyond with the Gospel. Ive heard this many times before from others. But its become such a common thing to hear and even say, Satan has taken advantage of this and sucked the life out of it. Driving to work today I listened to Dr. Tony Evans message from The One Anothers series on why staying connected to the Body of Christ, doing life together, is so vital and it brought it back to the core. Paraphrasing just parts: You can only maximize your vertical relationship with God through attachment to others. If you are detached in the Body there will be a breakdown in the flow of Gods life. Joining church means being part of a functioning body. So as you sit in church, taking up space, I want to know, are you beneficial to the space taken up or are you like a non-working eye just taking up space? You got the space, you in the socket, but theres no light coming through so theres no benefit to the Body. You are a critical piece but you are only a piece. In other words, its not all about you. So your connection is critical. The church is to be an environment of linkage: brother-to-brother, sister-to-sister, saint-to-saint, all to Christ. If you are a Christian that cant invest in the well-being of others, you have limited God’s flow to you because you are not an only child. God has a family and you are a critical part of His family. There are no insignificant members of the Body. If you thought church was all about you being served Ive got bad news for you. The Christian faith isnt a cruise ship, its a battle ship. And on a battleship you need all hands on deck cause we in a warfare. Bless the name of The Lord and know that you have a part to play on this ship!
