My God is not a game changer but a name changer…..A good name is - TopicsExpress

My God is not a game changer but a name changer…..A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favor rather than silver and gold. Again this is a thought that originated from the book of Ruth. I thought about Naomi how she herself changed her name….God did not change her name but she chose to be called bitter because God had dealt bitterly with her. There were many times in the Bible where God changed the name of a man or woman and almost always He did it to mark a covenant with that person. Abraham was Abram…Sarah was Sarai….God changed Jacob to Isreal….and Saul to Paul. When God calls us into covenant with Him, He changes our name. In Ruth, Naomi had gone through devastation loss and brokenness; this did not mean that God had forsaken her. HE DID NOT CHANGE HER NAME….It just meant that life happened to her. Later on we see at the end of Ruth that the women of the town reminded Naomi of the goodness of God and how the path that God allowed her to take, though it was hard in the end brought great gain and favor. She was pleasant (Meaning of Naomi) not bitter (meaning of Mara). Obed would be the restorer of life to Naomi and provider for her old age. The Game of life for Naomi was hard but God did not change the game and He did not change her name but he allowed her, through the game, to be as pleasant at the end as she was in the beginning. Many times when we as Christians face problems we forget that we have come into covenant with God. We want to change the “covenant” name that He has called us by and change our name to bitter or broken or “poor pitiful me”. Or we get mad at God because he will not change the game for us. We can call ourselves many things and we can let others call us names good or bad…But what matters is the name that He has called us by. Jesus Christ is the mediator of the New Testament (New Covenant), through Him we are called Sons of God. Abraham and Sarah could not see how God was going to give them a child….But He gave them covenant names and one day they saw it fulfilled. We have been called the sons of God and one day we will see the fulfillment of our covenant. As bad as this world seems I know He will see us through.1 John 3:1-2 Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not. Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is. IT WILL BE WORTH IT ALL!!!
