My Grandpa Donald Duck voice phone calls. Barbies as gifts for my birthday until I was a teenager. He never liked his name, and told me that countless times. He wanted to be called CJ, but everyone called him Clarence. He called my son AJ, maybe because their middle initials were the same....but it didnt stick. Always dancing. Skydiving at 80, I always wished that we would have done our 80 yo & 30 yo first jump together, like we had planned. I remember one time when I saw him in Florida, he told me I should come party with him and Dottie, because they didnt hang out with boring old people...they liked to party late with the young people. Always joking and laughing. Show-off handstands. Convinced he could still do a handstand in his late 70s...which almost didnt end well. That one time he called me out of the blue to confide in me. I didnt see him as often as Id have liked to, but when I did he always made me laugh and happy. Love of life and fun radiated from him and it was contagious. Incredible dancer. Crazy self portraits (with Dottie as his accomplice) in hilarious poses, like on the toilet in his living room. Always the Jokester. Always in awe of his LONG cross country driving trips... I remember him calling every news station in Tampa until one agreed to interview him about being Jasper from Twilights grandfather. He gave a great, proud, hilarious interview. He would have been an amazing actor himself. One of the most special moments that Ill cherish forever is dancing with him at Kellys wedding. And watching him pick up the tambourine and show the young wedding attendees how to really boogie in the dance circle. His love and devotion to Dottie, displayed by his patience (which was certainly tested) and devotion as her dementia worsened. I watched him answer a question she asked 10x in a row the same way and without visible frustration in a situation that was undoubtedly exhausting. His spirit defied the number of his age...he always said he was young. And he was always young...vibrant and loving it. I love you Grandpa. Im glad youre reunited with your daddy and loved ones, pain and worry free. We will miss your being here on Earth, but I know youre back in the arms of unconditional love, and I know that one day well meet in that place of love and all be together again.
